Application Regulations
The Cultural Association “Il Parnaso”, in the name of its Artistic director Maria Giulia Grazzini and in collaboration with the Municipality of Montecatini Terme, is staging the 7th International Opera Competition “M.O.A.” for Opera singers of all vocal registers and nationalities. The competition will take place from 31st August to 2nd September 2022 in Montecatini Terme (Italy), a famous Spa-town in the heart of Tuscany which offered hospitality in the past to the great composers of Italian opera such as Verdi, Leoncavallo and Puccini.

A certificate of attendance will be given to all participants.
Article 3 – The programme of MOA Competition
The competition will take place as follows.
Candidates admitted to the Competition must meet on 31st August 2022 at 09:00 a.m. at Cinema Teatro Imperiale, Piazza d’Azeglio 5, Montecatini Terme.
The Artistic Director and the Jury will decide in what order the candidates should perform.
The preliminary round is closed to the public and will be held on Wednesday 31st August from 10:00 a.m. onwards. Each candidate must sing 1 free choice aria among the presented ones, performed in original language and key. The Jury may listen to all or part of a second aria selected from the list prepared by the candidate.
The semi-finals are closed to the public and will be held on Thursday 1st September from 10:00 a.m. onwards. Applicants must submit 1 aria in the original language and key chosen by the Jury among the free choice arias (not already performed during the preliminary round) + 1 duet chosen by the Jury among the panel of required arias and duets.
The finals are open to the public and will take place as a Gala performance with the Montecatini Opera Festival Orchestra conducted by Maestro Stefano Seghedoni. They will be held on Friday 2nd September at the Tettuccio Spa in Montecatini Terme at 9:30 p.m.
In the finals, candidates must sing 1 aria chosen by the panel of required arias. The Jury may also request to perform a duet from those required.
Formal dress is required.
The reharsal of the finalists with orchestra will take place on Friday 2nd September at 11:00 a.m. (time to be confirmed).
The Jury will allow participation to the successive rounds with a simple indication of suitability.
The final judgment will instead be expressed with a numerical points system resulting from the average marks given by individual jury members. In the event of a tie, the Chairman of the Jury’s vote will prevail. The final results will be announced at the end of the Gala concert on Friday 2nd September.
All decisions of the Jury are final.
Article 4 – Music programme
All candidate must present: 2 arias of their choice + 2 arias chosen from the required repertoire + 1 duet chosen from the required operas.
Once the program has been sent it cannot be changed.

Article 5 – Registration
The Competition is open to male and female Italian and foreign opera singers who are aged 18 or over on 31st August 2022.

· A photocopy of your passport / I.D. document
· Proof of payment of the application / Competition fee: € 120,00 (not reimbursable).
Students who attended MOA Masterclass 2022: € 70,00 (not reimbursable).
· A recent photography (JPEG format)
· An up-to-date copy of professional resume (maximum two pages) in Italian or in English Application deadline: 23:59 (GMT + 1) on 20th August 2022 (candidates submitting late applications will be excluded from the competition).
The application procedures may be modified at the Director’s discretion.
Incomplete applications will not be accepted. Application implies the acceptance of all regulations.

Candidate (name and surname).
A copy of confirmation of payment should be included with the application. The application will not be considered valid if the fee has not been paid, and the application will not be considered by the examining committee even if complete in all other respects.
Participants are responsible for the cost of transport and accommodation. Prices for accommodation in our partner hotels are available on request.
Article 7 – Final points
The Cultural Association “Il Parnaso” reserves the right to film and record all competition activities for performances using videotape, tape, CD-DVD, films, Internet use, Radio and TV, with no obligation whatsoever towards any of the participants. Participation in the Competition implies full consent for the use of images and sound from events from the entire course, and prize performances for eventual radio, TV or Internet broadcasts, with no rights or fees of any kind being paid under any circumstances.
Article 8 – Data controller and persons responsible for the processing of personal data
The data controller is the Cultural Association “Il Parnaso. In compliance to the General Data Protection Regulation (EU) 2016/679 the candidate’s personal data will be collected and processed solely for the purposes of the current selection as well as for similar future selections.

The above regulations are published in Italian, English and Russian. In case of controversy only the Italian version should be considered valid.
